WHAT IS CACFP?

Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) contributes to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children and adults in the United States.

BENEFITS FOR

PARENTS

Parents are assured that their children will be served high quality meals. The benefit is children are less likely to experience fatigue and illness, and less time a parent must be absent from work. The child is also more likely to be healthy, happy and develop at a normal physical, emotional and intellectual pace.

PROVIDERS

Providers receive valuable nutrition education that helps them know the proper foods to feed children in amounts appropriate for these young age groups. They receive help through nutrition education and personal visits from CACFP staff and understanding how to encourage positive eating habits that will benefit a child throughout life. They help children make healthy food choices for their meals and snacks that will last a lifetime. Providers receive monthly reimbursements to help offset the cost of purchasing, cooking & serving nutritious foods.

COMMUNITY

Because of the CACFP, federal tax monies are returned to the provider’s state and invested in the health of the community’s children. The added revenue is a means of helping to keep child care costs down for employees working in the community. Since only regulated providers are eligible to participate in the program, this provides an incentive for unlicensed providers to comply with local child care ordinances.

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online here from any USDA office, by calling 866-632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation.

The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
